CAMARILLO SKYWAY PLAYHOUSE ANNOUNCES AUDITIONS FOR
THE LAST FIVE YEARS
Book, Music and Lyrics by Jason Robert Brown
Directed by Eric R. Umali
Produced by Jolyn Johnson
Music Direction by Jeff Berg & Susan Treworgy-Calkins
Jason Robert Brown’s Drama Desk winning The Last Five Years has been translated into a handful of languages and was named one of TIME Magazine‘s ten best shows of 2001. A testament to the show’s longevity, and spurred by the show’s regional popularity, The Last Five Years enjoyed an Off-Broadway revival at Second Stage in 2013. A film adaptation was released in 2014, starring Oscar-nominated actress Anna Kendrick and Tony-nominated actor Jeremy Jordan.
An emotionally powerful and intimate musical about two New Yorkers in their twenties who fall in and out of love over the course of five years, the show’s unconventional structure consists of Cathy, the woman, telling her story backwards while Jamie, the man, tells his story chronologically. Moving, funny, with hauntingly beautiful music… yet another show in our 2017 season that teaches us about love.
These will be closed-door auditions, and there is no dance audition.
Please prepare two contrasting songs of 16-32 bars in length in the modern musical theatre style. Do not sing any songs from the show, and be prepared to sing scales for vocal range. If bringing sheet music, make sure it is marked appropriately to your selection. If bringing a CD or music player, accompaniment tracks must be instrumental only and cued and edited appropriately. Please bring a list of any and all possible conflicts for the rehearsal period. No conflicts will be accepted for tech week or any performances.
We expect auditions to be very fast-paced and busy, so please understand the production team’s need to move through appointments quickly and give all auditioners a fair and full chance to be considered.
Auditions will be held Sunday, May 28 and Monday, May 29 between 7:00 PM and 10:00 PM both nights. If you are unable to attend either of these dates, we will accept a video submission prior to May 28, but prefer to see you in-person. Email Producer Jolyn Johnson at firstname.lastname@example.org to make your audition appointment as soon as possible. Walk-ins are allowed, but will be accommodated after the scheduled appointments, so appointments are greatly preferred.
Callbacks will be held Tuesday, May 30 at 7:00 PM. If you are auditioning, please make sure to have this day available. No auditions will be scheduled on callback night.
There will be no understudies for this production and no double-casting. As we expect to have a talented pool of actors to choose from, casting decisions will very much come down to chemistry and compatibility between the two actors and how well they fit the particular vision for this production.
Rehearsals are expected to be Mondays-Thursdays 7:00 PM – 10:00 PM, with Saturday daytime rehearsals possible if needed. Performances are August 4 – September 10, 2017 on Fridays/Saturdays at 8:00 PM and Sundays at 2:00 PM.
Open to all ethnicities. No pay, non-union.
